HISTORY
Markberg is the title of a real-life love story. The love of creating, of making a difference and of each other. The brand’s name represents the founders, Mette Astrup (MA) and Rune Klemmensen (RK), who are partners both professionally and personally. They always mix business with pleasure! Not just when it comes to the way they work, but also in terms of their products. All of Markberg’s items have a modern look and well-thought-out, functional details. It’s easy to fall in love with a product’s design, but functionality is crucial for that love to last a lifetime. At Markberg, they believe in quality. PASSION FOR SUSTAINABILITY
Mette and Rune have always been passionate about sustainability. This is why good materials and sustainable choices have been a part of Markberg’s DNA since the very beginning. The focus on sustainability has only become stronger throughout the years. This has resulted, for example, in a collection of bags made from recycled plastic bottles, which was launched in 2020. BACK TO THE BEGINNING
The idea for Markberg arose in 2008, when Mette had to buy a new pair of gloves. She had trouble finding gloves that could offer both design details and functionality. Mette and Rune both have entrepreneurial roots, so for them it never takes long for thoughts to turn into action, and they quickly began developing designer gloves in high quality. This proved to be successful, and the bags arrived soon after. Ever since 2008, Mette and Rune have been working hard to design quality products that live up to Markberg’s fundamental core values, and that also appeal to the customers’ taste. Over time, the two passionate business owners have extended the Markberg family with competent and dedicated employees, who together make great efforts to develop the brand and give customers an excellent experience.
MARKBERG PRODUCTS
The leather used is a by-product from animals that have been bred for the food industry. The leather is not from endangered species or exotic animals. All products with croco or snake look are made from embossed cow leather. By using high quality YKK zippers in the products, which increase the lifetime of the products. We only use cotton lining in all our bags, as we want to increase the lifetime of the products. Other fabrics commonly used for lining is not durable for long time use. All our products have batch information printed inside at the care label. This ensures traceability for the individual product. We are working towards implementing the use of organic cotton in 100% of our products.
ENVIRONMENT
Markberg make sure that all their products comply with the European REACH regulation, and therefore do not contain Chrome. They conduct their own regular testing, following a Chemical testing program. Silica gel bags are widely used in the industry to avoid moist and mould in the packaging, but the Silica gel bags have an unfortunate impact on the environment and human beings. Instead, they are using Micro-Pak® as a sustainable and environmental friendly alternative. Making sure that the carton boxes they receive from their factories are re-used when sending out goods to retailers. If boxes are not useable, they are being recycled. The same goes for plastic and other materials. They make sure that leather from unsold products are upcycled, and young people in the community can be creative and use the leather for other purposes.
